I think Swish is fantastic but I have no experience with this technology. I want to make fantastic headers fast. Am I fooling myself or can I do it with Swish? Do you have sample videos or other step-by step how-to-create your first Swish header materials, and if so where can I find them?

Thank You,

Welcome to the forums,

Here's somewhere to start:
Swishzone Tutorials
Swishzone Movies

Then you can Google for Swishmax Tutorials

Also with SM3 they provide some templates/examples of Headers..:)

Thank You!

I want to create headers. The size I need is 961 * 165. I like Banner_P004. But that banner does not seem to allow us to change it to those dimensions. Is there some way to do it? More importantly, do most of the banners have predefined dimensions or can we change them to whatever size we want--without distortion?

This technology could be fun!

Most of the included components (banners, web sites) have preset sizes. This is for ease of use. For those more advanced, they can be altered. To see what is included in that component, drag it to the stage from the Components Panel, right-click on the MC in the outline panel, and select Object Attributes. In the Object Attributes dialog window, on the lower-right uncheck the boxes beside Conceal Child Objects and Conceal Scripts. This will allow you see any child objects (MC, text, images) that make up that component. You can also see the script needed in the Script panel.

Now go to the Modify menu, Author Component to have a look at all that is needed to make up that banner. In the Component Authoring Wizard you will be able to alter the dimensions for the component. In your case, you would add your dimensions to the Size Control Parameters and the Display Parameters. Once you have done that, click apply, then close the Author Component wizard. Now go to the Parameters panel for your banner, and in the drop-down list, you should see the size you entered.

I recommend making changes only to components that you have dragged onto your stage. This way if you mess up, all you have to do is delete it from your Outline Panel, and drag another copy from the Components panel. You can also in the Component Authoring Wizard Export it to an XML file on your system. You can also just save the SWI as a component, by selecting File menu>Save as Component, give it a name and save it.

Then you can even build your own components from scratch, save them, and even share them with others. As you will see in the Object Attributes dialog there are a wide variety of protection attributes that you can set. So if you've worked very hard on creating a 'one of a kind' component, and do not want anyone to be able to alter it, you can even setup a password protection.. ;)

I've posted a couple of screenshots of this banner, altering the size to your dimensions. The first image is of the Author Component Wizard, having added your dimensions to it.You'll need to click on the image to enlarge it. The screenshot was too large to just post here, so it will open up in Imageshack, the sharing site I use for my web forums.

This next one is of the Parameters Panel, revealing those dimensions in the drop-down list.

What does "MC" stand for? Also when I right-click my mouse in the outline panel I do not see a "Object Attributes". Is there some other way to access it? I didn't see it among the menu options. I'm using Swish miniMax3, does that change the discussion?

..."M/C" stands for "MovieClip" and your correct with your assumption that using SMM3 does change the discussion - some of the options in SWiSH Max3 are not available in mini.
Here's a Comparison Matrix.

I did it again, didn't read the forum that this was posted in. I mistakenly thought you're using SwishMax and not Swish Mini Max.. I apologize for misleading you....

...not your mistake - the new member had posted this in the SM3 forum - I just moved it to the appropriate mini3 forum.

I think Swish is fantastic software but you do need to be familiar with flash to really get anything out of it, yes?

To change the text, you need to first make sure the component is selected in the outline panel. Then look for the Parameters panel. If it is not visible, go to the Windows menu, and select it from the menu. You can dock it where you like, I keep mine docked next to the Properties panel.

Now in the Parameters Panel, look for the parameter called Text. Click on the text, it should open the text edit dialog window. Now just delete what's there, and replace it with your text. Try to keep the same format, structure for the text, ie; 3 lines of text, and not too many words on each line. That's it..

>>but you do need to be familiar with flash - no, you don't, all it takes is little patience and a good read of the help files and checking out some of the screencast tutorials.
