Hi,
I'm searching a gallery to show a series of .swf video files.

I see in the on-line sample that Gallery72 is able to play .swf videos but ... I have just two questions :

1. with reference to the on-line sample, why, if from the first thumbnail (the video) you move to the second thumbnail (.jpg image), the image appear but the music from the video continue to play ? There is missing something to stop the video when you change to some other in the gallery ?

2. because the video is very small I'm unable to understand if the gallery start to show/play the video immediately or after loading them all in memory. This is very important for me because I have large .swf video (30 - 40 MBytes) and they should start to play immediately and NOT after the complete downloading in memory (which can be very long) !

Thanks a lot for any answer or suggestion,

Guglielmo

Hi,

Ok very interesting questions.

1. I have turned off the sound in the small thumbnail swf so that you won't have the sound from multiple videos clashing. The image after it is played does animate off to the left and the _visible is set to false, this may not stop the video from playing through the sound channel. This seems to be the case when you manually selection the thumbnails. It is a difficult to code a solution that wil work with swf and a swf streaming a FLV. My thoughts are to completely remove the loaded video when you need it to stop and then reload it when the gallery needs it, the browser should cache it. Except there maybe issues as the gallery assumes the swf has loaded.

2. I hope that these large videos are FLV so that they will stream, once the control SWF has loaded. It is always best to have them stopped at the start so the user selects them to play.

>>Question: How have you made these large video SWFs? Using SWiSH Video2 and with what control set? I nedd to know so that I can offer a solution.

Cheers

Elliot

Hi Elliot,
thanks for quickly answering :)

Yes, I made this large SWF (I used SWF, not FLV) with SWiSH Video2 with the Minimalist control set.

Now :
relative to point #1 "My thoughts are to completely remove the loaded video when you need it to stop and then reload it when the gallery needs it, the browser should cache it. Except there maybe issues as the gallery assumes the swf has loaded." ... can you indicate what is necessary to modify ?

relative to point #2 you say "I hope that these large videos are FLV so that they will stream, once the control SWF has loaded" ...
... no, they are just SWF, but with SWiSH Video2 I can easy make FLV ;)

Thanks in advance,
Sincerely,

Guglielmo

As long as we stop the video from playing, then that should stop it.

The issue with accessing an external swf or swf streaming FLV created from Video2 that the objects seem to have different names for different controllers. I will get back to you with the object names soon - I need to chat to the developer about that, maybe suggesting the controllers have the same object names :)

I am super busy with Max2 today so will need to attend to this tomorrow.

Cheers

duh, sorry forgot to reply to this.

It seems the controllers for Video2 have different mc names, I have made a dev suggestion to make these consistence and publish the movieClip names. From my communications with the super developer who makes these he thinks Controls or Controllers, or Controller could be the names he used, but in his investigations these seem to change (/slap).

I am going to check the Minimalist source files today.
