I've been told that I need to add a clickTAG to my banner ad. Thes are the instructions from the Macromedia site which of course tell how to do it in their program - any idea how to add to a Swish file?

To assign a clickTAG for your advertisement:
The clickTAG is the tracking code assigned by the ad serving network to an individual ad. The clickTAG allows the network to register where the ad was displayed when it was clicked on. This click through data is reported to the ad serving servers so advertisers may determine the effectiveness of their campaign.

The code below will allow ad serving networks to dynamically assign a clickTAG to their ad.

In this example, a getURL action is being assigned to a button that will navigate the browser to ["clickTAG"]. The "getURL(clickTAG)" statement appends the variable data passed in via the OBJECT EMBED tag and navigates the browser to that location. It is the tracking code assigned by the ad serving network, which allows them to register a user's click on that advertisement.

<EMBED src="ad_banner_example.swf?clickTAG= http://adnetwork.com...www.d...L.com">

The code below will allow ad serving networks to dynamically assign a clickTAG to their ad:

on (release) {
if (clickTAG.substr(0,5) == "http:") {
getURL(clickTAG);
}
}

So I use the Script tab and the "Function:"? I put the function as "on (release) {
Then Function arguments
1: getURL (clickTag, "_blank"):

and in 2: I just put the "}"

Is that the right area to do this?

In the Scene tab, I selected Go to Link (URL) and put in the page I want the person to go to on my web site.

Thanks,
Gard

okay the object embed should be placed there by
them

How to do this with swishmax

Select your object
Go to the script panel
Add Script>Button>On Release
Add Script>Browser/Network>getURL
insert clickTag for the url

Now time to do a little expert editing
Select Espert from the drop down menu
(as opposed to guided)
Change this code
on (release) {
    getURL("clickTag");
}
to this code
on (release) {
    getURL(clickTag add"");
}

the object embed tag is where the variable
clickTag is established.

Check out the html source code
and the swi here

Thanks again, Michael - for the file and all, quite helpful!

Now I'm not sure how to get the embed info in the object....

I am doing this for a whole scene, so I chose the scene, not an object. I also added an _blank since they want it to open in a new page - my code looks like this:

on (release) {
getURL(clickTag, "_blank");
}

Thanks for the help,
Gard

An easier solution would be to create a shape with no line or fill
that covers your scene
then use that as your object for your button.

getURL(clickTag add"","_blank");

If you look at the source code it demonstrates
where the clicktag is placed.

Which is similar to your embed version
<EMBED src="ad_banner_example.swf?clickTAG= http://adnetwork.com/tracking?http://www.d...L.com">

if the swf is to be hosted on your server I would suggest
using the full url of your swf.
<EMBED src="http://yourserver.com/folder/ad_banner_example.swf?clickTAG= http://adnetwork.com/tracking?http://www.d...L.com">

The transparent shape worked perfectly for me, as long as it is the top most object of course, very easy to get working.
