3d Spiral Stair Case

I got bored, so I tried to create a
3d Spiral Stair Case looping animation
just for grins and chuckles LOL

...anyway, just uploaded an update.
Tried to make it a bit more realistic.

http://flawlessdog.c...piralStairCase/

This isn't a scripted animation. I used the good 'ol 3d spin fx from the core effects
in swishmax and did all the animation in the settings of each of the 30 parts

....ok, so I had some time on my hands. At least the world has another useless spinning flash animation :P

One thing I never realized before about the 3d spin, is that the x, y, z spin on the first 3D spin pannel isn't a real spin.
Rather than actually spinning the movieclip, or group and allowing me to see the actual back of the movieclip/group, it's actually a mirror image of the movieclip/group I am seeing.

So, for this animation I needed to fake it, and just make it look like we are seeing the backside of the movieclip.

I wonder what, if anything can be done about that backside of the movieclip thing, so we can see the real backside of the movieclip/group?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks :)
Glad you like it

To further illustrate the backside of the movieclip and 3d spin fx thing,
here's the same swi without my faked backside fix.
It is clear that it is a mirror image we see, rather than the actual back of the clip.

Thanks :)

Here's more of a complete version(no mask), 10 added steps for a total of 24.
You can see more of the rotation in this version.

I think I understand .. you want it so that when it if viewe from behind, the stacking order of the objects should change so that what used to be the rearmost object is now at the front.

Hmmm .. not sure if that's posible with an effect, as timelines have preallocated depths. If we chagne the depth an object is in, it has to delete the old object and create a new one at that depth .. and if that object is a movieclip (ay) that means it will be recretated, restart itself and lose any of its old status .. and that's not good.

Hi Roger
Thanks for the reply.

I think you understand what I was asking.
I was afraid you would give me that answer, as I know too we are working in a 2d, and not real a 3d environment.
Seemed worth asking tho. Who knows...this might get someone to thinking about something new, huh?
Thanks again.

I'll have one more version of this thing before I lay it to rest.
I'm playing with the rotation, a bit to see what can be done.
Will let you know here, when it's ready to show.

Enjoy.

...
No matter. I'm a bit dizzy anyway, after making this last version.

I took out the downward "y" movement, and have a full 360 spin.
I guess that is enough for me, and as long as this is in the site check,
let me know what you think. Enjoy.

Is it possible to turn this into something functional, like a menu? Click on one side of the steps and it has one action, click on the other and it has a second action?

In short: yes.
Each if the "steps" would need to be converted to buttons,
along with the corresponding back sides and their separate button actions,
rather than a single pair of library items as it is currently.
